- People are adaptable and generally want to do their best
- The questions we ask determine the solutions we get
- People don’t resist change, they resist being changed
- You get more of what you focus on
- Listening is more important than talking – especially for leaders. Yet listening to what people are really saying is one of the hardest things for managers to do
- Sometimes you have to repeat yourself to be heard
- Sometimes you have to repeat yourself to be heard
- The process for developing things is often more important than the outcome (an example would be the development of vision and values)
- “All failure stems from leadership”
- Organisations are living systems
- People want to find meaning in their work
- For outstanding team performance, along with clear task focus there needs to be understanding of, and appropriate attention given to, group “process”.
- The best learning is grounded in the work of the individual and contextualised within the aims of the organisation
- Helping people remember why they joined the organisation can release incredible positive energy and motivation
- People are increasingly choosing what organisation they wish to work for based on a wide range of factors, and not just economic rewards
- Performance can always improve
- Outstanding, sustainable organisations are characterised by a clear focus on the work at every level and excellent leadership
- The problems we face are invariably one level up from where we think they are
